In 2015, Karen and Kevin completed the Earth Medicine Training Program,” offered by Amy Wilinski at her home and farm in Wisconsin. This course teaches the Peruvian philosophies that call for an intimate relationship with the self/personal; the energies or spirits of the land, of animals, water, stars, universe, etc.; and the collective energy that is created by such relationships....being personal and personable. Mesas, or medicine bundles containing energized stones and other objects, are used as tools to extract and contain heavy energies from people and their homes and return them to the Earth. Karen and Kevin each have been initiated into some of the basic mysteries of the society of mesayoks (mesa carriers) of these Peruvian teachers
During a trip to the Sacred Valley in Peru, they had the privilege of working in a small group with don Jose Luis Herrara, and the two medicine people—pampamesayoks—that accompanied the group through sacred archeological sites and a camping trip to meet with the spirits, the Santa Tierras, of the sacred mountains Wakaiwilka and Ausungate (spelling is phonetic from the Quechua language). Drawing in power from the energy of the land, mountains, and spirits was an emphasis of this learning experience, to become “power-filled” to become powerful. Understanding the duality and paradoxes of the universe was also a common theme, encapsulated in an ancient Quechua word, “Yeyontin,” and similar to the Toltec Nahuatl word, “Ometeotl.”
Karen and Kevin have continued their studies and practice of shamanism in soul retrieval work on self and clients, ayahuasca journeys in the Amazon, and mesa and ceremonial work where they live, in Riverwoods, Illinois. The facilitate classes in Oak Park, Illinois, and at their home.
