After being diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 1995, Karen began searching for some answers to the condition she found herself in of chronic stiffness and achiness in all joints, especially localized in the neck and shoulder area, panic attacks and constant anxiety. After realizing that westernized medicine had no real idea of what was the source of this so-called syndrome, she began her own quest to find her health and vitality again. Starting with a path involving yoga and dance, reading wisdom books by the Dalai Llama, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Carl Yung, etc., it eventually led her in 2007 to the path of Toltec wisdom and to the Toltec Master, and now Wisdom Elder, don Allan Hardman. At this time, Kevin, joined this path, and the two of them apprenticed with Allan Hardman for six years and now continue their friendship with him.
Karen and Kevin themselves continue learning the shaman way; having competed a course in Earth Medicine Training and have been initiated as full mesa carriers. Along with ongoing Reiki classes, they have studies with the Foundation of Shamanic studies, a globally-recognized institute. In the meantime, Karen and Kevin offer enlightening shamanic sessions at their beautiful Riverwoods, IL home or at the Third Friday Gallery art venue in Oak Park, IL on the Third Saturday of each month. Weekend artist retreats are also offered at their home and at their 75-acre property in Ferryville, Wisconsin.
